The lure of the bright lights of Nollywood, the fame, the money, and the street credibility really appears at an all-time high. You either make it, fake it, or go the extra mile to get it. With such competition rife, we’ve seen the industry many times veer to the extreme, with nudity and ‘immorality’ rearing its controversial head, growing in leaps and bounds. But one thespian whose support definitely won’t be given to the emerging pop culture is veteran actor and one-time Chairman of the Actors Guild pf Nigeria (AGN), Pastor Zack Orji.
Revealing to the News Agency of Nigeria in Owerri, Imo state, Orji condemned the ‘rise of immorality’. He noted that movies which were originally meant to promote the people’s cultural heritage and discipline were being destroyed in the name of civilisation..
“Most movies shown in recent times are capable of destroying the moral background of children as they have become the most popular movie audience.
“Film production must be properly checkmated before circulation because it is wrong for an actor or actress to expose his or her body to the world in the disguise of acting,” he said.
He said that some actresses were suspended during his regime as the chairman of the Actors Guild, advising actors and actresses to lead lives worthy of emulation.
Orji, a pastor in the Power Life Assembly Ministry, Owerri also revealed that in spite of ministerial work, he was still active in the industry but could only accept scripts that promote morality.
