Gunfire Exhange Inside Mosque As Crackdown Continues In Egypt

Fighting after prayers was extended into the mosque where a few thousands of Mursi’s supporters were rounded as Anger and defiance took the atmosphere inside the mosque in Cairo. They argue as security forces urge them to clear the building as some opted to leave while stood their grounds despite assurance from an Egyptian officer of safe passage. Amateur video which cannot be independently verified captures the scene of chaos as people flee the mosque as exchange of gunfire began, while security forces move in to clear the mosque. Egyptian authorities say they had rounded up more than 1,000 Islamists after Friday’s protests. There are also reports that the brother of al Qaeda leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri, was also detained. The health ministry says 173 people died in clashes across Egypt Friday, in what the Brotherhood called a Day of Rage. The Prime Minister called it a “very bad, ugly day.” Now the fear is there will be more days like it to come.

Image
Nina Siakhali Moradi was disqualified after winning a post on the Qazvincity council — just because she was too pretty. This is the face that launched a thousand protests. A democratically-elected city council official in Iran has reportedly been barred from taking up office  just because men in power thought she was too beautiful to serve. But Nina Siakhali Moradi is more than just a pretty face. The 27-year-old from Qazvin, a city northwest of Tehran, is an architect and website designer. She managed to collect 10,000 votes during the June election, the Independent reports. Moradi placed 14th on a list of 163 candidates, which allowed her to become an “alternate member of the Council.” When one of the men above her in the rankings gave up his seat, Moradi was bumped up to a full council member. An electoral review board, composed of older conservative men, decided to kick her out. “We don’t want a catwalk model on the council,” a senior official in Qazvin told lo

What I Do To Male Fans Who Want To Have Me – Juliet Ibrahim

For actress, mother and wife, Juliet Ibrahim, acting was never on the front burner. Her dream had always been to sing and to model. Today, however, she is one of Gollywood’s most popular faces following her break through after she played the lead role alongside aspiring Majid Michel back in 2005 in Crime To Christ. In this interview, the mother of a baby boy, entrepreneur, and Best Actress in a Leading Role award winner, opened up on growing up, how she met her husband and her turbulent childhood. She also spoke about how she is giving back through her NGO, Juliet Ibrahim Foundation. Excerpts: At what age did you realize that you wanted to be an actress? It all began when I was a little girl.  I aspired to be a musician and a model. Acting wasn’t really my dream from the beginning; I stumbled on it in 2004 when I was 18. What is your assessment of the security situation in Ibadan and Oyo State in general? The security situation in Oyo State is relatively peaceful and I must tell you that the synergy among the security agencies here is very superb. We relate well; the Commissioner of Police carries me on well and indeed refers to me as his brother. I do the same to him. Anything that affects one affects all. At a time, there was a clash between my men and the police. Immediately I told him about it, he promptly took it up and resolved it. My bosses were amazed. That’s the level of rapport that exists between us. How would you compare the work situation in Lagos to the one in Oyo State? Lagos is very riotous. What I am trying to say is that there is so much stress in Lagos State when compared with a state like Oyo. Oyo State is a more peaceful state. Ibadan is particularly peaceful. Life here cannot, in any way, be compared with life in Lagos. But just as God backed us up in Lagos, H

seen Nigeria’s Asa sue a newspaper for calling her a Lesbian. Now, Charly Boy, a self proclaimed 60+ year old bad boy of the music industry follows Asa in suing for the alleged rumor that he is gay. Charly Boy, in a country that outlaws homosexuality, has been bold in displaying affections for a member of the same sex. In one instance, newspapers ran pictures of him kissing television personality host  Denrele. Subsequently, Mirror Newspaper ran a story calling him gay AND stating that Charly Boy confirmed he was gay to them on tape. When the subsequent story broke a couple of weeks ago, many said and seemed to say, “tell us something we didn’t know.”  Charly Boy, for all the liberalness he displays and his live and let’s live attitude, didn’t find it funny. He threatened to sue and it appears wrote a demand letter that the publication renege on the story or else face legal action. The publication said, “bring it on. We have you on tape. You wanna fight, bring it on.” Ch

Charly Boy has a message for single ladies… Read below; All the single ladies reading this, chin-up and give your good self a thumb up. Nothing doest thou. Last week I had a father/daughter discussion with my Princess. I could feel the frustration in her tone as we spoke about different issues. When I asked about her boyfriend she gave me a very long and irritated “Naija babe” hiss, she aired out her frustrations with this whole dating business. “Daddy we are no longer dating.” “I’m so very sorry my love, but what happened I queried,” very anxious to hear the gist, cause me and my Princess are just that close. This is my daughter’s 3rd boyfriend since she started dating, and she has only been with him for barely 6months… “Daddy, please I’m tired, he is not ambitious, he has no drive, and he is too laid back for his own good, how can I marry a man like that? To make matters worse, he thinks I am overly ambitious, he says I do way too much – please tell me ho

Daniel Sturridge scored the first goal of the 2013/2014 EPL season, as Liverpool beat Stoke City at Anfield 1-0. Both sides hit the woodwork several times, before Sturridge saw his shot squeeze past the excellent Begovic. Arsenal began their campaign with a shock 1-3 loss to Aston Villa at the Emirates. APC divided over Buhari, Tambuwal for 2015

Image
The decision over whether to pick former head of state and presidential candidate of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari or the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, as the flag-bearer of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC) in the 2015 presidential elections is threatening to tear the party apart. It was gathered that while influential figures in one of the constituent parties, the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and some Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) elements in the new merger party are strongly rooting for Tambuwal, Buhari still commands overwhelming following in the defunct CPC and ANPP. A highly placed APC source in Jigawa State told this correspondent that Buhari’s following in the merger arrangement is so strong that at a recent meeting held in Kaduna, the former governor of Kano State, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, who could have posed a threat to Buhari’s candidature, was prevailed upon to st

Nigeria is not cursed – CAN replies Obasanjo

Image
The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has faulted a recent statement attributed to former president, Olusegun Obasanjo who said that Nigeria is jinxed and cursed. Obasanjo, while delivering a keynote address at the 4th Annual Ibadan Sustainable Development Summit during the week; lamented that after 53 years of independence, Nigerians were yet to commend any leader. According to him, if that be the case, “then we are jinxed and cursed; we should all go to hell. We had some people who were under 50 years in leadership positions. One of them was James Ibori, where is he today? One of them was Alamieyeseigha, where is he today? Lucky Igbinedion, where is he today? General secretary of the association, Rev. Musa Asake, while reacting to Obasanjo’s statement noted that despite the fact that Nigeria is going through some challenges, it does not mean that the country is cursed or jinxed. He maintained that the current state of things would soon be over “as there
