EPL Review: Villa stun Arsenal, Liverpool defeat Stoke

Daniel Sturridge scored the first goal of the 2013/2014 EPL season, as Liverpool beat Stoke City at Anfield 1-0.
Brendan Rodgers, who was without the suspended Luis Suarez, started with Sturridge upfront, with new boy Iago Aspas supporting him in attack. Coutinho pulled the strings superbly behind the strikers. Both sides hit the woodwork several times, before Sturridge saw his shot squeeze past the excellent Begovic.
Arsenal began their campaign with a shock 1-3 loss to Aston Villa at the Emirates.
Olivier Giroud got their season up and running with a neat finish, after excellent work from Oxlade-Chamberlain on the left. However, Christian Benteke scored from his own rebound, after missing a penalty. The Gunners flattered to deceive in the second half, before Benteke and Luna struck to heap pressure on Wenger.
In other games, West Ham defeated Cardiff City 2-0, Norwich drew 2-2 with Everton, Fulham won 1-0 away to Sunderland and Southampton also beat West Brom 1-0.
