Thomas Gilbert Jr., the Princeton graduate who killed his father after his allowance was decreased,  was sentenced to  at least 30 years in prison for the crime.  A jury rejected an insanity defense as a judge in the Manhattan court handed down a sentence of life in prison with a possibility of parole after 30 years, which  the New York Times noted  is the maximum penalty allowed under the law. Shelley Gilbert asked the judge for "as light a sentence as possible" so her son could receive treatment for a variety of his mental health struggles.  However, the judge rejected Gilberts' insanity defense, telling him that he "knew exactly what you were doing."

A woman in Wisconsin has been charged with hiding the body of her dead mother in the basement of her home so she could continue collecting her mother’s social security checks and dividends. Deputies arrived at the home of Ruby Bergold, 89, of Marinette County, Wisconsin last week to do a welfare check after a neighbor called authorities to say that Ruby’s daughter Paula Ann Bergold, 59, had been collecting Ruby’s mail and that Paula was “being evasive to where Ruby might be,”  according to ABC’s Green Bay affiliate station WBAY.

A two-year-old girl has died after being left in a hot car — and authorities allege her babysitter is responsible for her death. On September 17, police in Hobbs, New Mexico, received a 911 call around 1:30 p.m. The caller told the dispatcher that she had accidentally left a toddler in her vehicle for several hours. Authorities arrived at the scene and found the 2-year-old Zariah Hasheme dead. Tammie Brooks, 41, told police that she was babysitting the toddler and was supposed to drop her off at daycare. She allegedly went to work instead, and left the baby in her vehicle.

A Texas man wanted out of his marriage and instead of going through divorce proceedings, he faked his wife's signature on paperwork in turn ending their union without her knowledge. The  New York Daily News  reports Paul Nixon submitted forged documents and false information to a Houston district court. Nixon also reportedly committed perjury when testifying in court during a divorce hearing. The divorce has been tabled due to the perjury and fraudulent documents. The constable’s office started the investigation after Mrs. Nixon informed officials of the divorce that occurred without her knowledge. Harris County Constable Mark Herman spoke with a local news outlet and said that a search for Mr. Nixon is underway as he is now wanted for aggravated perjury. “We have teams out looking for him right now, I can tell you,” he told the station. “And we have an idea where he’s at. So hopefully, he’ll turn himself in. If not, we’ll catch him. Just a matter of time.”

Britain has concluded that Iran was responsible for attacks on oil facilities in Saudi Arabia, U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson said Sunday. He said the U.K. would consider taking part in a U.S.-led military effort to bolster the Gulf kingdom's defenses, while Iran's president announced plans for a rival Iranian-led security coalition. The U.K. Conservative prime minister also said the he would work with allies to "de-escalate" Middle East tensions that have soared since  the Sept. 14 attack  on the world's largest oil processor and an oil field. Britain had previously held back from attributing blame for the drone and missile attack. Saudi Arabia and the United States say Iran was responsible, something Tehran denies.

The Nigerian government has adopted National Livestock Transformation Plan.It says the plan is not targeted at only cattle but the entire animal husbandry sector in the country. Under the plan, N100 billion will be spent with the federal government contributing 80 per cent in grant, while states will contribute land, project implementation structure, personnel and 20 per cent cost of the project. The plan will remain voluntary for state governments that want. This was disclosed on Thursday by Gov. Dave Umahi of Ebonyi after the National Economic Council meeting in Abuja. Mr Umahi heads the sub-committee on herders/farmers crisis.

The Taraba State election petition tribunal has nullified a petition brought by the All Progressives Congress challenging the election of Governor Darius Ishaku.  The court on Friday said the APC’s petition was not brought by competent applicants, since the first petitioner, Abubakar Danladi, had been disqualified by successive judgements from appearing as a candidate for the APC in the March 9 election.  According to Premium Times,the court also ruled that the allegations of election malpractices brought by the APC did not include sufficient evidence to warrant a nullification of the election.  Mr Danladi and his party had accused the PDP of massive election rigging.  The APC also alleged that it had polled a majority of lawful votes in the election.  But a three-member panel of the Court on Friday said the decision of various courts including the Supreme Court which ruled against the candidacy of Mr Danladi in the elections following an intra-party dispute, had rende

The Nigerian Police Force in Rivers State,South South,Nigeria have confirmed the arrest of a hotel serial killer in Port Harcourt.The suspect who’s real name is Gracious David West,was arrested earlier today.The 26year old killer from Buguma LGA of Rivers state is also a member of the dreaded Degbam cult group.The suspect was arrested along the East-West road enroute  Uyo.Confirming the arrest the State Commissioner of Police CP Mustapha Dandaura disclosed this to news men in the state.The suspect has since made some useful statements to the police
